July 28 Friday

Didn't do anything 'till 4:45 when I walked to Lesley's, had a spaghetti dinner, then went to the livingroom and drew. At 8:20 went to the Dorval Shopping Center with Lesley's parents (65). Got a 'Mickey Rat' t-shirt, went back to Lesley's. Drew the envelope for Ralph's letter. Left at 11, rode Lesley's bike.

[Letter from Alan Rhodes [to Ralph and Danielle], postmarked 4 August, 1972. The envelope impressed me [Ralph] at the time- the back was illustrated with a giant eye, while the front was covered with several sketches, the largest of which was a bearded Marc Bolan lookalike in front of a diminishing perspective checkerboard pattern. The address (to my Uncle's in The Hague) was enclosed in a cartoon speech balloon coming out of the Marc Bolan figure's mouth. A note on the edge of the envelope informed me that "T-Rex is coming Sept 8.]

Hai Ralph and Danielle,

How does Europe look this time of year? Is the bright sun shining and the nice birds singing? The doctors are coming for me.

Guess who is back in the group:

1) Brenda Gates

2) Lesley Astle

3) Lanore Doy

4) Judy Franklin

5) Robert Rea

Circle corret [sic] answer)

a) 1,3,5 b) 1,4 c) 1,2,3,4,5 d) 2,4

The correct answer is D. Yeah, Lesley phoned me July 4 to see if I had some cross she had lost, and we talked 45 mins, etc. And Ralph, you can't say anything because I heard that you and Dave were talking to Lesley in the library on June 2, 2 weeks after she was out (SIN!!!)

Like the envelope? You better! It took 2 hrs. work at Lesley's. Oh yeah. Do you remember in Now for Something Completely Different the fag soliders [sic] marching. Well anyway, we're doing it in a movie when you get back (Don't hurry)

Well I can't think of anything more because it's 12:15 AM. O.K.!!!!

The One and Only (thank God!)

A Rhodes

July 29 Saturday

At 12:10 Gillian came over, talked, she left at 1:20. Later got picked up at St John's by Lesley, got to Fairview at 3. She was looking for a coat, took 2 sets of pictures (sent one to Chris). I bought patches 'Cannabis Sativa' [which would later show up on my 1973 jean jacket] and 'SHIT'. Lesley got mad about something on the way home.

July 30 Sunday

Gillian came over about 12:30, she left about 1/2 hour later because she remembered she had to go to Judy Robinson's. Taped 4 songs off T-Rex's new album [Slider] off the radio.

July 31 Monday

About 2 Judy and Sandi Campbell came over, talked in the basement, talked to Lesley on the phone. watched 'The Wild Wild West'. They left at 5:30.

65. Lesley's parents: her mother was French, very outspoken and friendly to us kids. Her father was a quiet little man with a moustache, in fact I don't ever remember him saying anything. In 1975 (?) her mother went for a walk to a nearby gas station and was never seen again...
