October 1973

October is flooded with drugs (99). LSD was around in the form of little green and purple transparent pyramids. Everyone was doing it. I gave one to my sister Sue for her birthday, she slipped one into her future husband Max's tea. He chewed the couch cushions [and when they went to see (of all people) Liberance the next night, he was still stoned]. Someone lost one in the grass at the C.C., they were that small.

I did cocaine on October 3, 4 and 8-LSD on October 4, 6, 9, 11, 13 and 16 and mescaline on October 20, 21 and 22. Other dates may be lost...

Around the beginning of October, Foster and his girlfriend came over and did coke with me because I hadn't got off from an earlier try. I didn't get off on coke until the days of Ajmal in 1981.

The 'drop-in' at Westminster of October 5 I do remember...

Two news events I remember hearing about that month: the war in Israel, and OPEC (and the gas crisis).

Letter written October 3, 1973 from Ralph to Gillian

Dear Gillian

How are you? Don't mind the typing, it's just that I'm practicing since I haven't been for a while.....Anyway sorry I took so long to write I just never got around to it. How do you like the typing...I'm speeding right along here at about a word a minute..zap.......I'..whydid Iput a' after "I" and forget to put a space in between "I" and "put" and "why" and "did"? As you can see I'm not exactly ACE TYPIST OFF THE YEAR and I hate typing and i don't know why I'm doing this and I dont' know why I put ACE TYPIST OFF THE YEAR in CAPITAL letters and don't you just love letters that ramble on and on and on and on and on...........................................................................................................

................................................................................................ ..........................................................................................................and on.

Not much to tell today except that I heard that you're trying to get goodies from Andy and I think it's absolutely disgusting!!! I'm shocked!!! Anyway I hope the next letter will be more interesting. Don't get mad if the next letter takes a while but you know how I hate writing letters.

Oh I almost forgot, Larry got his apartment. It's exstravegantly furnished; 4 cushions, 2 mattresses, 1 coffee table, 1 end table, 3 kitchen chairs and a stereo.

Anyway I don't know what else to say or should I say "write" or maybe I shouldn't say anything except to say the letter ends around here and I hope your not too dissapointed with the letter which ends write here.

Your Loyal Subject

Ralph

(ta daa!)

This letter will probably be thrown in the wastepaper basket. I think, but I'm not sure, but I think the letter ends Here .

Did you have your warm this morning?

(this line is commonly known as a blank, fill in anything your heart desires)

Dave bought 2, Count'em, 2 David Bowie albums...Whoopie!...

(Andy's) October 4 Thursday

Sue broke off (?) with me tonight "I want to think it over for a week" she said. In a state of mental shock I went to the golf course (Beaconsfield) to meet Robert F[enouhlet] (from M+S) who was with some other people. Picked up 11/2 ounces of Ahfgan in St. Anne's, 1/2 ounce of which is mine. Met Todd M on the way-he was looking for hash. We drove around, he and his friend finally scored (Rob hadn't showed up yet) and he left me there. 10 minutes later they showed up, got very stoned.

99. Let's play some number games. Assuming that 2.5% of the John Rennie population (2,000 x 2.5% = 50) smoked hashish at any one time, and that this number purchased 1 gram per week each, the yearly total would be $13,000 (50 x $5/gm x 52 weeks = $13,000 1973 dollars). Now let's assume that half this number would purchase either LSD or mescaline once every month: $600 (25 x $2/hit x 12 months = $600) . Add to this $20,800 (4 packs of cigarettes per week at $2 each times 50 smokers, a number surely too low). This brings up a total of $34,400, which does not include beer and alcohol....
