Postcard from Dave Essiambre to Ralph, postmarked 22 July, 1972.

 

The postcard is "scene 3" from the series of cards enclosed in The Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main Street", and is addressed c/o his Uncle's in The Hague.

 

Dear Ralph

 

Of course we all miss you very much. I miss the rest of the family as well. Right now weather is extremely poor. Notice post card is from Exile on Main Street (R.S). Got new T. Rex album. Same with Alan. Not much to say. Tickets for T. Rex sell week before performance. Dying to see you all again. Sorry I haven't written.

 

July 23 Sunday

July came over about 12:30, talked. Diane came, she and I played chess. Gillian and Lesley came, then Dave, then Maggie and Sue, then Alan. Played 'Sardines' [this may have been when Sue got stuck behind the water heater, she was very small]. Lesley, Judy, Diane and I sat in my room. Manny, Danny and a girl Judy came, blew bubbles [again?]. I bought T-Rex 'Beard of Stars' [released in March 1970, it included 'Elemental Child', a song we played to death] off Manny for $3. Manny, Danny, Judy, Judy, Lesley and Gillian [and probably Alan too] left about 20 minutes later. Dave, Diane, Maggie, Sue and I made hamburgers and ate in the kitchen. Sat and watched TV, planned something for a movie like the fag soldiers from Monty Python. Maggie and Sue left at 9, Diane and I watched TV, Dave under the earphones. Dave did the thing with oranges. They left at 11.

 

July 24 Monday

Judy came over, then Diane. Played chess with Diane, didn't do much. Diane left at 4:30, Judy and I watched a movie on TV about the future (1984-Big Brother). Judy stayed, had hotdogs. Diane came back, made a tape on the reel to reel [which is lost]. Watched a ghost story on TV, Lesley came. Turned off the lights and scared each other. Judy left at 10, we talked. Lesley and Diane left at 10:45.

 

July 25 Tuesday

Judy came over in the afternoon, then Diane. Judy felt sick and left at 2:30. Diane and I played chess, she left at 5. nite- At 9:20 Lesley and Gillian came over, went to the basement, talked, they left at 10:20.

 

July 26 Wednesday

About 4:45 Lesley and Gillian came over, sat in the livingroom. They left at 5:45. nite- at 7:45 Lesley and Judy came over, sat in the livingroom, then downstairs cause Dad came home. We went to Perette's then home. Judy left at 10, Lesley and I watched 'Night Gallery' in the reckroom, she left at 11.

 

Letter postmarked July 26, 1972 from Danielle in Trieste, Italy

 

Dear Gillian, Allen, Dave, Abbie, Andy etc etc,

 

We are off the ship and in Trieste, Italy.

The boat trip was really and we had our own gang there. They were mainly the deSmits and the Jansens (Koos, Nico (twins), Jessica and every so often Cinta).

There was also Keren Penny (female) who lives in Montreal. Raji Menon who's 11 but looks older than he is (New York), and Peter Hazou from Hastings on the Hudson.

Jessica Jansen was my pen-pal for 2 years after we met a few times before Nico & Koos really nice guys are twins (almost identical) [sic]. Koos has hair to his shoulder and Nico had his yearly mistake at the barber. Cinta Jansen is tall for her age (11) and is all right.

Keren Penny has two brothers (John 19, Nigel 21). She's abit flirty etc, but a real nice kid.

Raji Menon also looks about 13 but is 11. She's going to India and was born there. Her brother and sister are nice too.

Peter Hazou is the weird one. He used to always go "Heellooo" "Hi There" to almost everything.
