September 19 Sunday

Around 8:30 pm went to Rea's. We sat in the kitchen, then Mike and I went to the Maples Inn [he and I had become friends almost instantly], then to my place. Mike drew a picture of John Lennon [which survives]. I lent him 'Woodstock', 'Eric Clapton' and 'GFR Live'.(12)

September 21 Tuesday

I saw Laine, he was going to his bus to Lindsey.

September 22 Wednesday

Before classes, Ken. Rea and I went to the back parking lot. Lunch- went to the shops, sat in the place between the furniture store and dress store, and rolled smokes (Rea, Porter, Shawn etc).

September 23 Thursday (13)

E, F, and H blocks went to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Saw some pictures [Dürer] then went to the caf there. Then we saw a movie (artist Dürer) then more exhibits. [By the way, I like Dürer's work far more than this entry would indicate]

September 24 Friday

Lunch- Ken and I went to the shops, met Derek S there. He said Laine once threw a wrench at his sister. nite- went to Rea's room. We went to the Maples Inn, met Brenda Gates.

September 25 Saturday

Liz came over in the afternoon to borrow records. nite- went out with Mike [and went to Rea's. He wasn't in, so as we stood outside wondering what to do another group of people came and talked with us. They were] a girl [Judy Franklin], a girl with fuzzy blond hair [Lesley Astle] + her boyfriend [Don Dowden. Outside Rea's we talked and told jokes. Lesley always remembered the one I told her about the duck in the guy's pants (13a)]. They, Mike and I went to [Ovide] park (toked up sitting in a circle). I got stoned. Went back to near Rea's house, then I walked with Mike down the 2&20 to get home. [and with this laconic entry (which belies it's importance) of a very chance meeting the party really begins...] (14)

September 26 Sunday

Went to Rea's to get records (that Mike borrowed) that I'd left there Friday.

12. Mike, when borrowing another album 'The Plastic Ono Band-Live Peace in Toronto', had it fall out of its sleeve and roll down St John's road. This would have been c.November 1971, as he was with Christine (who he was seeing briefly. See October 8, 1971) at the time.

13. I carved my name and the date on a tree in the woods behind the Civic Center, probably on the way home after school.. It was in a small patch of woods that ran south from the Civic Centre down to a ridge that overlooked the back of the shops. When there was no snow, it was the quickest way to get to the shops.

13a. This joke also appears in ‘The Sting’ (1973)

14. Twenty-five years later to the day, I went back and retraced our steps...
