Andy, Ralph and I hitchhiked and walked through Lachine to Verdun to see Mahogany Rush in a school yard near overpasses. On the way in Lachine Andy and Ralph were embarrassed because I had tied back my hair in a ponytail (ahead of my time. I would wear it like that from 1976 to 1981). Andy was also embarrassed when I told one of our rides we were from the West Island. On the way back we walked through the Turcot train yards and along Upper Lachine road. It was hot (c.late June-early July).
Donna had gotten in trouble because of too many parties. Dave Shoeler had thrown beer bottles off the balcony. I was present when a can of white paint was thrown off [March 15, 1973]. She began to work at the A+W in D.D.O (the future Chenoy's) c.July. She treated Ralph, Dave, Andy and I to champaign and rum (it was her birthday), which we drank at Andy's. Dave got drunk, ran away to Hymus and told some guys in a car where we were partying (they didn't show up). Ralph left, Donna took Andy to bed (his first time I think, he needed a joint, which he smoked in the kitchen with Dave and I). After I asked Andy if I could take a turn (yeah), but she left. Dave tried to get his earring in (Dave was ahead of his time too, he's pictured on January 1, 1973 at Ralph's trying to put an earring on) (c.July).
The Drop-In. It was the chalet of the park on Blue Haven in D.D.O.. It was introduced by Sue Essiambre I believe. There one could smoke and drink and party, usually on a Saturday night. The police did come at times, but nothing serious ever happened.
A great many new people appear at this time. The list includes Louise Trembley(at least in my memory, she appears in Ralph's journal on December 29, 1972], Danny Hinves, Pat Ford [now know as Dawn Ford, she appears in TV productions in Canada. Her sister Darleen is a friend of my sister Sue], Rachelle ?, John and Tracy Tate, Mike Sawyer, René ?, Scott Forsyth, Gary Field, Richard ?, Jerry Sovontovich, Jackie Ranger, Pete McKinstry, Cheryl Bennet (Bennie), Ron and Denis Proulx, Dave Hughs, Murry Robinson, Bob Hyland, Alan Whitehead...
Went to a house party in Dollard, drank bad wine, it was hot. Larry brought us (c.July-August. Possibly August 24, the wine would have been 4 Aces).
Two places, one was new, one was old, near Belmont Park?
Scoring drugs in Picourt with Mike Sawyer? Alan Whitehead? Rain (summer).
Dave and Donna in bed at Dave's.
Dave and I at a show at the Pierrefonds Arena, we heard one of the early electronic songs from the Sixties (Pierre Henry/Michel Colombier - Psyche Rock 1967) in the parking lot (and a group of guys yelling faggot at us).
Gillian had friends downtown, like Mitch. They got together with Linda and Donna. Mike McCartney also saw Linda awhile (who didn't?).
Hash oil appears.
Patchouli oil also seemed to be everywhere, sold in little glass vials.
Scored hash on a street in Dorval one evening.
Trips to Belmont Park. Andy and Larry sitting in the bar there, listening to a song by the Hollies, lamenting their lack of women. I got a button with my photo on it (c.August).
Partied in the field across from the Pulp and Paper Research building on St John's. Phyl, Larry, Louise, Ralph? Andy?. I remember Phyl and Louise were making out pretty good, beer and distant sirens. Later were at Somervale townhouses, in the courtyard.
There were a couple of gatherings in parks in Pierrefonds. Once I remember going with Gillian near sunset, meeting Ivan (of Ivan & co., the light show company. Possibly August 23). Another time was at night in a field next to a park (see August 13, 1974). People there were on mandrax. Donna, Andy, Brad and Bob were there at least, there were others. Brad was drugged, lost a lens from his glasses and found it in the grass in the dark (no small feat on mandrax, which makes you move like on a heavy drunk. I myself never did it). Later at Brad's? house Brad, Bob and I were trying to wake Andy up a bit, who had also done mandrax. Brad, I think, tried to get him to drink coffee. Some spilled on Andy's chest, he thought he'd been sick, jumped up and spilled the coffee everywhere. I think Andy fell asleep on his front lawn.
Gillian had gatherings. One was for a few days. She had trouble with Larry and Andy, maybe Dave too. We put Créme de Mente in the hookah, which of course was spilled on a white throw rug. Gillian just flipped it over and I don't think her parents ever did find out. (probably August... Actually no, see September 1, 1973)
Gillian went to England for most of July and August.
Gathering(s?) at Andy's. Great fun. Gillian and I would split an ounce of marijuana ($20) for the weekend. (this may have only happened once, after reading this journal and the ones of Ralph and Andy, I don't trust memory that isn't backed up with written sources, especially for this era. Tradition says late June-early July, though late August is also possible
Pat Ford, Denis and Ron Proulx, Louise Trembly, Tracy Tate and Rachelle, Cheryl Bennett (Bennie)
