December 11 Monday

Lunch-Mike, Ralph and I were in the Great Hall, tried to step on ping-pong balls. French-Kalf away, had Johnson. He opened Janet's jacket to see if she was a girl [? Ralph says "I think he was talking attendance. When Janet answered "here" he refused to believe she could be a "Janet"- assumed "he" was answering for someone else].

December 12 Tuesday

Lunch-in the student's lounge with Ralph, Lesley, Mike, Dave, Ruth and sometimes Andy. Sat under the speaker. French-Kalf away, had an old blond lady (?). I called [Rod] Smith Marjory and he called be Delila and Ralph Evelin. [After school went to Dave's on the bus. Diane came over later. I went down[stairs] for Star Trek...When I came back to Dave's room all the lights were out. I turned them on and found Dave + Diane in bed, not wearing all the clothes they had on when I left. I won't go into details. At 6 pm we left and went to Mac's. Then we headed for Fairview. Diane and Dave went to Fairview and I went on home...Andy [phoned and] asked if I wanted to go to John Mayall...]

December 13 Wednesday

B(spare)-went to the shops with Christine (windy), got donuts and sat in Topaz. Dave came, had to leave Topaz because we didn't buy anything. Lunch-went around the Great Hall with Dave, Mike and Andy, at the phone. Went in the can with Dave, bought $1.50 of hash, smoked a cig in the can. French-Kalf away, no teacher came so nor did we. Met Dave and Christine in the student's lounge. A Jesus movie on. We went out for a smoke to the C.C..

December 14 Thursday

B(spare)-Dave, Christine and I went to the C.C. for a smoke, then we played cards in the student's lounge. Art-defacing ads in 'Life'. Lunch-sat in the student's lounge with Lesley, Sandi, Ralph, Ruth, Dave and Mike. The last 4 went out for a smoke [for a splif], I told Lesley I might do what Gillian and Christine did [I have no idea what that was now...actually Ralph believes it refers to my leaving the group (May 1994)].

December 15 Friday

B(spare)-Christine and I went to the C.C. for a smoke then to the student's lounge and played cards. Art-Christine came in, defacing ads again. Lunch-in the student's lounge with Lesley, Ralph, Andy, Christine and Ruth. Richard came. Christine and I went to the C.C. for a smoke, met Mike outside. We went back in, Mike had icky green stuff called 'Flesh' [gotten from Ted's, the hobby store where Mike worked-- I think he was stealing it. I remember him eventually giving cans of the stuff to nearly everyone] [...Lunch- After Hist. I went to Alan and Andy's locker. As I was telling Andy what time to be at my house to go to Mayall, Alan just left. I found him in the caf + Ruth was there. Ruth and I were talking about him being in a bad mood and he left on us again. Found him in the lounge with Lesley + we sat down. At first he didn't say a thing, then he got all happy and was joking etc. Then he started talking about how he was planning on going to George London's this weekend + next weekend and after he had come back from the farm [after Xmas?]. When he went out for a cigarette with Christine + Mike, I told Lesley that Alan was acting like Chris Todd and she said it was about time I noticed. [Chris was an enigma to me: I could never understand why he hung around with us that summer-- he seemed to have nothing in common with us, nor we with him-- and I understood even less when he started to avoid us at the end of the summer-- he became something of a symbol for inexplicably petulant and anti-social behaviour...] I asked if that was what she and him talked about on the phone last night [how did I know about this?] and she said yes. I finally got it out of her that he was planning on leaving the group indefinitely and that the cause was Dave E. and me. Something about us insulting him [I wonder if the irony was as obvious to me then as it is now: Alan, the bane of my fragile adolescent self-esteem was leaving The Group because I had insulted him (or that I would become its chronicler)].. French-in my last year's room because ours is being painted. Christine came too. English-spare. Smith had a ribbon hairband, and Webb wore the ribbon as a tie. nite=Ø. [...Dave got here around 5:15. Andy still wasn't here at 5:30 so we called his house and he got here around 10 minutes later. Since we were late I ran ahead to the store to buy batteries for my flash + cigarettes for me and Andy and I met them at Cedar Park station....On the train Dave kept making fun of the people across the aisle and Andy gave the conductor his Mayall ticket by accident, but he got it back. When we got off the train we went straight to the Metro and got off at Atwater. Came up in Alexis Nihon. Went to Cargo Canada across the street and then to the India shop which is a little way down from Cargo Canada [on St Catherine's]...and we went to the Forum. We talked in the lobby for a while with some guys Andy knew from school...The show started with Mahogany Rush who did Purple Haze, Red Roses for a Blue Lady, and finished with Johnny B. Goode. They finished at 8:45 and after about 10 minutes Delton + Glen [?], a country rock group, played till about 9:45. During that Andy + I went out + bought coke + chips and talked to those guys again. At about 10:30 John Mayall came on. Andy + I went up to the front + I got some good pictures [the prints bely this opinion]. Some guy told me to stop with the flash [can't recall if this was said out of annoyance or as advice-- I do know that at some point I discovered that electronic flashes at concerts only served to highlight the backs of heads in the foreground]. Mayall was really good, Keef Hartley on drums etc. The show ended around 11:30 and we got to the car [my father picked us up] at 10 to 12. The roads were in horrible condition [a blizzard had started in late afternoon] and after driving Dave and Andy home we got home at around 1 pm].
